Stepping outside on a clear moonless night at West Withy Farm is an astronomer’s dream. Look up from the farm’s grounds on the eastern side of Exmoor and your eyes are bathed in ancient starlight from many thousands of distant suns. The absence of streetlights and the careful control of other outdoor lighting means that so many more stars can be seen from this secluded spot in West Somerset than can be seen from most other places in the UK. If you want to discover stargazing for yourself, there’s no better place from which to strike out on your own astronomy adventure.
On the edge of darkness
Set on the eastern side of Exmoor National Park – officially one of the best places in Europe to stargaze – West Withy Farm delivers an exceptional astronomy experience. You can bring your own telescope equipment and set it up on the dedicated stargazing terrace in the farm’s grounds. There’s also an option to rent telescopes from the Farm to use yourself. Each rental telescope comes with a folder of stargazing information to help navigate your way around the night sky – perfect for beginners to stargazing!
