The Mars Society is pleased to announce that Inspiration Mars Executive Director Dennis Tito will serve as the featured speaker at the 17th Annual International Mars Society Convention’s evening banquet, scheduled for Saturday, August 9th at the South Shore Harbour Resort in League City, Texas, just outside Houston. As the driving force behind the Inspiration Mars concept, Mr. Tito will talk about current Inspiration Mars planning for a Red Planet fly-by mission. Mr. Tito is a U.S. engineer and multi-millionaire, most widely known as the first space tourist to fund his own trip into space. In 2001, he spent nearly eight days in orbit as a crew member of ISS EP-1, a visiting mission to the International Space Station (ISS). This mission was launched by the spacecraft Soyuz TM-32 and was landed by Soyuz TM-31. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Astronautics and Aeronautics from New York University and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also received an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2002.
