Wow, has it really been this long since I have posted on my blog?! Time flies for sure, so what better way to kick off the first blog post of 2014 with a near monumental discovery that I let slip right by.Now to be fair, not many of us backyard stargazers think that when we are viewing a galaxy, or any object for that matter, we could be making a discovery. However, you COULD be making a discovery, as a recent event has proven that you ALWAYS need to be vigilant.I'm talking about the recent discovery of a Supernova in M82 Galaxy, commonly called the Cigar Galaxy. This supernova was designated SN2014J, and was officially discovery on Tuesday, January 21st 2014. Now notice I emphasized officially in italics, because the Virtual Star Party Team and I actually viewed this days, yes DAYS before this official discovery was circulated, but we just didn't notice. YIKES!Now The Virtual Star Party is the brainchild of Fraser Cain, the publisher of Universe Today.
