The new astronomy club I helped form, the Murfreesboro Astronomy Club, participated in its first event yesterday, and what an event! No, not huge amounts of people, I would estimate maybe 25 or so came out during our 2 hours of solar viewing, but the bigger picture is the fact that we were participating with the world-wide efforts of possibly thousands of amateur astronomers to share the views of the Sun. Part of Global Astronomy Month, SunDay (get it) is a day for amateur astronomers to share the views of our closest star, the Sun.Weather wise it wasn't to good, we had thin cloud cover for most of the time, permitting still nice white-light views, but washing out most everything in Hydrogen-Alpha. To add, there was quite a bit of wind as well. However, we persisted and eventually there was a decent break in the clouds to show off the Sun with our Coronado SolarMax 60II. We decided to live feed it to a laptop, and use a superb program called Daves Solar Recorder to show the monochrome image via our ImagingSource DMK21.04, but with a twist, since the program permits two feeds of video, one for surface and one ...
