Orion recently introduced a new table-top tracking mount, the StarBlast AutoTracker Altazimuth Mount. This petite, yet capable mount supports up to 13lbs, and once a quick alignment is performed, it will track objects across the sky at your typical sidereal rate. The system is closed loop too, so loosening the clutches and manually moving the scope/camera will not disrupt its tracking or alignments when you install the optional Orion Atlas/Sirius Computerized GoTo Hand Controller to permit full GoTo capabilities. The mount also has a number of features DSLR photographers are going to enjoy, like camera control functions (Canon DSLRs), automatic time-lapse shots, panoramic shots, as well as snapshots at designated preset positions. What makes me particularly interested in this new mount is the possibility for using it for solar outreach. My Coronado SolarMax 60II should fit nicely on this mount, and permit a very compact and thus portable viewing platform. I already plan on bringing out a table anyway, for things like brochures etc, and frankly broadcasting Ha to a computer makes it much easier for people to view the features.
