Ambitious Initiative Aims to Realize Interstellar Space Travel Within Next 100 Years

The 100 Year Starship™ (100YSS) 2012 Public Symposium, to be held on September 13-16, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in Houston TX, marks the beginning of a project to realize human interstellar travel within the next 100 years. Former U.S. President Bill Clinton will serve as Honorary Chair in this symposium that aims to attract influential intellectual, scientific and cultural leaders to explore the science, social structures and strategies necessary for human interstellar travel. 100YSS will identify and promote radical leaps in knowledge and technology necessary for achieving interstellar flight, while pioneering and transforming breakthrough applications to enhance the quality of life on Earth. The initiative began in November 2010 as the 100-Year Starship Study, a grant project launched by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and NASA, offering US $500,000 in seed money to create an organization to study what it would take to send humans to another star within the next century.
