Scientists have confirmed the existence of methane dunes on Pluto’s vast Sputnik Planitia ice plain. An asteroid first detected on Saturday near the orbit of the Moon has exploded just a day later in a spectacular airburst over southern Africa. Virgin Galactic has carried out a second powered test flight of its VSS Unity space plane in the skies above California’s Mojave desert.
