On 20 July 1969, commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Eagle on the Moon. Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface, saying the famous words “One small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind”. Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later. In 2019, the world celebrates 50 years since the success of the Apollo 11 mission, and the ESO Supernova has prepared a series of activities to mark the occasion.
