The name and the logo for the Luca Parmitano mission have been identified

The ISS 36/37 space mission finally has a logo and a name, and will be joined by the sixth Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano at the end of May 2013: it will be called "VOLARE" and will be represented by a Soyuz that surrounds the Earth with a tricolour trail and traces the path of the ISS.The symbols of the mission have been officially communicated today during the "Draw and Name” award ceremony of the Luca Parmitano mission.Announced by the Italian Space Agency, the theme of the contest was the creation of a name and a logo representing the Italian participation in the ISS 36/37 mission.Open to all Italian citizens, the Notice of Competition stated that the best ideas for the name and the logo should reflect the elements that make up the Italian acronym of Parmitano: professionalità (professionalism), avanscoperta (exploration), ricerca (research), missione ISS 36/37 (mission), italianità (Italian spirit), talento (talent), abilità (ability), nuove frontiere (new frontiers), opportunità (opportunities).
