Dr. Sarah Milkovich, lead Science Systems Engineer for NASA-JPL’s Mars Perseverance rover, scheduled to launch this July, will give a virtual update about the mission to the 23rd Annual International Mars Society Convention, set for October 15-18.

During her 14 years at JPL, Dr. Milkovich has specialized in science planning and operations for landed and orbital spacecraft, geomorphology and planetary science research, science communication and the ability to handle nebulous problems.

Prior to the Mars 2020 rover mission, she served as an Investigation Scientist for the HiRISE-Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and the UVIS-Cassini Orbiter, a Science Operations Systems Engineer for the Mars Science Laboratory and an Instrumentation Sequencing Engineer for the Mars Phoenix Lander, as well as a Post-Doctoral Researcher focusing on the stratigraphy and history of the Martian polar deposits.

Dr. Milkovich received a Ph.D. and M.S. degree in planetary geology from Brown University and a B.S. degree in planetary science from the California Institute of Technology. She also appears regularly on online science podcasts and video blogs and gives public talks in schools to inspire the next generation of young scientists.

This year’s global Mars Society teleconvention will be free of charge (although donations are welcome). For full registration ...
