Rebuilding STEM Education in Puerto Rico
The group Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) is conducting a crowdfunding campaign to help rebuild STEM education programs in Puerto Rico. As you may recall, the island (which is part of the United States) was ravaged by hurricanes in 2017. The current regime in charge of the U.S. government has been very slow to help its citizens recover from back-to-back hurricanes. Not only are roads and hospitals in bad shape, but homes are seriously in need of repairs. Schools need educational materials to replace what was lost. To help educators, AWB and its partners need at least $2,500 and have only a few days left to accomplish their goal. Please consider helping out.
About the Project
AWB is partnering with Instituto Nueva Escuela, a non-profit group composed of teachers and volunteers, as well as Ciencia Puerto Rico, Sociedad de Astronomía de Puerto Rico, Sociedad de Radio Astronomy del Caribe, and the International Astronomical Union’s Office of Astronomy for Development. The goal is to provide STEM education materials that Puerto Rico’s schools and students need to achieve their potential. Through AWB’s worldwide community the students will have the opportunity to share their work throughout the world.
