(200 words excerpt, click title or image to see full post)

Robert Rauschenberg, “Stoned Moon Drawing,” 1969. (Collage and crayon on illustration board.) Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, https://www.rauschenbergfoundation.org/art/artwork/stoned-moon-drawing.

The only colors
blue
“APOLLO 11 COVERED AND SHIMMERING IN ICE”
and orange
“THE BIRD’S NEST BLOOMED WITH FIRE AND CLOUDS.”
When the rocket
clears the page,
I’m left with sepia and yellow
ink and paper
and words that make me wonder
if the Moon really wanted company
and an image of turkey buzzards
still nesting atop the VAB.
