Robofesta 2009
“Robofesta” is a public event on robotics. Robofesta 2009 at Kanagawa Prefectural Youth Center was held on November 28. I could not join this event last year due to the schedule conflict — I had to be in Fukuoka Prefecture for Space School in Fukuoka — but this time I could participate in with Prof. Takashi Kubota, who is a specialist on space robotics. The main attraction of the JAXA booth was “Micro5 1st”, which is a prototype of lunar rover. It has a suspension system with 5-wheel drive and twistable twin bodies for high traversability over rough terrain. Total number of participants was 525, and kids (and I) experienced controlling Micro5, with captured image from onboard camera plus simulated transmission delay by 4 seconds, under supervision of Prof. Kubota.
