South Korea’s synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, Kompsat-5 has been successfully launched into a near polar sun-synchronouos orbit at 1439 GMT on 22 August 2012 by a Russian Dnepr launch vehicle flying from the Yasniy (Dombarovskiy) launch site in Russia. The 1,400kg satellite which is also called Arirang-5 has a resolution of 1 m using its Italian-sourced SAR sensor.
