An unmanned Russian Progress M-021M (ISS-53P) cargo spacecraft/freighter has been launched into orbit on a Soyuz U launch vehicle on its way to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch took place at 2053 GMT on 25 November from the Baikonur Cosmodrome located near Tyuaratam in Kazakhstan. The spacecraft, which is carrying fuel and cargo for the astronauts aboard the ISS is using a slower approach and rendezvous technique than the six hour approach that is now the standard technique. During the four day approach the spacecraft is testing our a new rendezvous and docking system called Kurs-NA which replaces the previous Kurs-A system.
