Some of these events really do go above and beyond. Telma C. Couto da Silva has written in with an excellent example.
“I´ve been trying to do my best with very small resources to develop Astronomy at the Brazilian Pantanal region. Time is also tight because I still have to be a Physics teacher at my university giving classes to Physics and Electrical Engineering undergraduate students. I am the only professional astronomer at my region, and I am having help of 2 amateur astronomers_ a teacher and a student at my university_ and another teacher and student who are very interested on Astronomy and are amateur astronomers beginners. Truly, I (and my collaborators) have gotten a huge pleasure allowing people to develop Astronomy in this region. A partial report of this work was presented at IAU XXVII General Assembly, on page 410- 411 of Abstract Book, entitled Developing Astronomy at the Brazilian Pantanal region.
Our program at the middle of Brazilian region, a wetland region mainly characterized by its gorgeous environment, will be very diversified:
