Guy Laliberte takes his clowning seriously. The 50-year-old
founder of Cirque du Soleil, who on Friday became the seventh self-paying
visitor to reach the International Space Station, has built an entertainment empire on dazzle, precision acrobatics and Broadway-class sets.

Now he takes his creativity on what he calls a poetic and
social mission to call attention to the planet’s reliance on water.

“I’m an artistic person and a creator. I’m not a
scientific. I’m not an engineer.
Life has given me some qualities, some assets and I have built up a team of
very creative people around the world. With those people I think we’ll present
to the world something that is originally creative and hopefully will have the
result of sensitizing people toward the situation of water in the world,” Laliberté
said.

To help spread the word, he’s enlisted a few of his
Earth-bound friends, including Al Gore, Peter Gabrielle, the rock group U2 and a
dozen other celebrities, artists and filmmakers, for a two-hour, 14-city live
performance on Oct. 9 .n: yes"> I’m not an engineer.
