Boeing has unveiled a concept for an air-launched small launch vehicle (SLV) to be carried aloft by the Virgin Galactic WhiteKnightTwo.
Sized initially to carry payloads up to 100 lb., the SLV would employ two reusable air-breathing stages and a third stage made up of an expendable or reusable rocket. Boeing projects up to 100-150 flights per year, at $300K per misson, and believes the system could be ready by 2020.
